As the level designer for Pet Mage, I had full control over the shape and objectives of levels and the map. Since the team for pet mage was only four people, we all had input into the mechanics and core loop of Pet Mage., my design experience meant a unique opportunity to decide how the mechanics and play spaces shaped each other.
We set out to give each animal their own section revolving around their own unique mechanic. With the game belonging to the puzzle-platformer genre, it was crucial for the layout and interactions of each puzzle concisely communicate is unique about each animal, especially with the limited development time of a student project.
